After using System Restore, when I try to open a text
document saved in My Documents, I get the message: "Error
loading files required to start the application,
wpwin.dll." It asks me if I want to fix the problem now,
but wheather I click yes, or no, nothing happens. I want
to restore to 9/17 prior to downloading some Windows
Updates that have affected my computer adversely.
Please respond in "simple terms" and thanks for any help.

System Restore only replaces the registry and the file
structure. I will not replace files. If you are replacing
a system file you can "sfc /scannow" and have your system
disk ready and it replace them if their missing or
damaged. Sounds like you have a program file that you will
have to restore from the program disk.

Hi!Bruce!
start > Run > sfc /scannow > ok

Hi Bruce- Is there a chance you could have restored to a point BEFORE you
installed the SP1? Try reinstalling SP1 either way to see if that fixes your
problem. You could have some files out of synch.

System Restore does monitor application and system key binary type files
like .dlls, .exe's, etc, and undoes monitored changes to them, but it does
not track or undo changes on your personal user type files, (like word docs,
text files, etc). Also be sure to turn on your firewall and after you
reinstall the SP's you need to re-reinstall any the necessary security
updates on your system.
Let me know if this helps solve the problem-thnks-*(heres an FAQ with more
info on System Restore)
