Error on startup

Every time I start up or restart my computer I get this message just before
it takes me to desktop:
"Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the
default profile for the system. DETAIL - The system has attempted to load or
restore a file into the registry, but the specified file is not in a registry
file format."
The message stays there for 30 seconds or until I click cancel. This
message has appeared since I bought the computer and shows up every time. I
do have a username on XP ("Greg"), and I don't know how to get rid of this
message.
