text of the notice? There are Windows Defender specific discussion groups
which is the best place for posting a WD question, and please give complete
info on the problem.

Uninstall the old version and download the new one from the link below:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Also do you have Anti-virus Installed, turn the AV OFF when you do the
installation.

If all fail try to run the Run command: sfc /scannow and let it run.
Do you get an Error Message, try to look in the event viewer for any error
messages (X) reported in the Error log.
