Everytime I sign on to Windows mail I have an error msg saying it was not
shut down properly the last time. I've tried exit under the file tab, I've
tried clicking the upper right corner, and every other form of getting out
that I can find. Nothing changes the ubitiquous error, everytime. Any
solutions known????
Second question: when I set up Vista on my new pc I assigned myself a user
account. Then, when I used Windows Easy Transfer to move stuff from the old
xp sytem to the new vista pc I got a 2nd user account. This affects windows
mail and all other functions. So, now I have two user accounts and my files,
folders, et al are in two places. Can't even copy a file in one to drop it
into the other account, Vista won't allow it. I need a way to COMBINE ALL
and just work as one user. I am the only one who every touches my pc. HELP!!

I have the same problem as Russ. Windows mail will not shut down properly.
Plus, I cannot erase the deleted messages. I get the correct prompt, and
answer it, but nothing happens.

Failure of Windows Mail to shut down properly is often caused by
interference from a non-compatible antivirus program. Which
antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
For more information on why email scanning is bad, see

Sorry, I'm not familiar with your Easy Transfer problem. I also used
Easy Transfer, but it did not set up a second user.

If any messages can't be deleted, apply this Microsoft fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090

Although that article only mentions Outbox, it works for all mail folders.

In the long run, it would be better to upgrade to the newer Windows
Live Mail email program:
