I have just loaded xp professional and I have an internal modem V.92. When I
turn on my Pc an error message appears:-

PCTEL HSP MODEM V.92 CONFIGURATION
IOCTRL FAILED, PV92 TRAY WILL BE CLOSED

Can anyone tell me what this means and how to rectify this?

Answered in your other post.

Found a Fix!

Ok.. .I found a solution:

Here is what happens:

Windows Update has a -optional update- which includes a driver update for this modem. This is what starts the issue.

Some people have reported this with the -Windows Genuine- thing, but its not the install of that,
it because you install that right before you do the updates.

PCTEL 2304WT IOCTRL
Try these drivers:
http://www.geeks.com/drivers/HSP_UniDriverSoftware_Win2kXP.zip

You may also have to manually copy over the GEEKS version of ptserial.sys to the system32 (or wherever it ends up)....
Do a global search for
ptserial.sys

and you want to replace the with the geeks version.

Then of course.. when you use the Windows Update, IGNORE the optional modem update.

You can also google:

PCTEL 2304WT Geeks c840

and you'll find a post.

..

One issue you may run into is that the geeks update is ~older than the windows update one. Thus you may have to run the geeks tool, and if it asks you to browse for a file, you just have to find one. The file I'm speaking of is the compressed version of the dll, I think its like ptserial.sy_ or ptser_.sys, something like that.
You'll have to finish the install, then do the -manually copy- thing (using the Geeks version of ptserial.sys) I mention earlier.

If you read this, and this fix works, PLEASE write a followup post to confirm, for others.
Even though I got my issue fixed, I took time to write out the fix or the next guy. I encouragae you to do the same, and elaborate if you can.

Thanks man U ROCK, it works .......My above problem naggin me 4 some time has vanished KEEP UP THE GUD WORK.... THANX again

Same Problem Fix works Thank you

I have been annoyed by this error message for some time now and I am so thankful for this fix. However I still have a problem that my windows automatic updates will not install. They just keep asking me to install them and then I do and It says they did not install and then that repeats. I'm thinking maybe I should uninstall all the windows updates I have so far and reinstall then. These are mainly security updates it seems.

Can anyone please help or have a suggestion I would appreciate it.

Thanks!
