Error Message

I recently upgraded to XP from 2000 and now while I am
surfing or using one of the installed programs, I get an
error message that states:

The system will shutdown in 50 secs due to Remore
Procedure Call (RPC) Service Termination? Any ideas on
what I have done wrong during the installation? I am
using a Dell Desktop, Pentium 4 1.8 system

You have the MS Blaster virus or a knock off. Here is advice from one of
the MVP's

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first
installed the KB824146 Hotfix, without having first installed an
antivirus application with current virus definition files, and before
enabling a firewall, you're very likely to get infected from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.

I'm no techie, but it sounds like you might have the worm
that started making the rounds a few months ago. try
enabling the built-in firewall on your internet connection
and look at
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp
I could be wrong
