Recently installed Vista Home Premium. On startup, there is about a 90 second
delay with a blank screen after Vista loads until I see the desktop. Checking
errors I see AWService Hung Up and in the description it says, "Service Admin
Works Agent X8 hung on starting"

Any ideas what this is and how to fix it?

Thanks

The AWService is part of the Intel Desktop Utilities. It can be fixed, but
you'll need the latest version. See

and, especially,

for the download, and

for comments on earlier problems and solutions with it on Vista x64.

David,

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not running x64 but the 32 version. I do
have the latest Intel Desktop Utility installed. I'm beginning to think I
created some problems when I used ACHI mode in the BIOS to setup my 2 SATA
HD's instead of IDE. I didn't want to use RAID.

Hmmm... I don't think that using ACHI or IDE mode would influence this. I
would try uninstalling and re-installing the Intel Desktop Utilities in XP
compatibility mode.using the Program Compatibility Wizard. It sounds like
Intel still has some work to do on this. (I don't have Vista installed on
any Intel chipset machines yet so I can't test this for sure.)

I'll try that. I've sent Intel an email request for help with this. If I get
an answer that works, I'll post it here.

Thanks
