Greetings...

I recently installed MS Office Professional Edition 2003 and now when I
launch an MS Access database I receive the following error message (not even
sure if the two occasions are related):

“This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm
your computer. Do you want to open this file or cancel the operation?â€

Any assistance/direction would be greatly appreciated..

V/R,

Steve

Hi Steve,

The message you are seeing is not an error message. This is Microsoft trying
to protect users from viruses that may be contained in database files. This
"feature" has been highly criticized by many users ever since Access 2003 was
released. The good news is that the next version of Access will allow one to
designate trusted folders, so that they don't have to deal with this.

To disable this warning message, open any database. Then click on Tools >
Macro > Security... Choose the Low setting. On the next screen, choose Yes to
the prompt that reads, in part: "Do you want to allow the evaluation of
potentially unsafe expressions".

You should be fine with this setting as long as you 1.) have antivirus
software which you keep properly updated and 2.) you don't make a habit of
opening database files that others might send to you unsolicited by e-mail.
