I go into My Network Places and click on a folder under
my shared folders and get the following message..
explorer.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x7749745f" referenced memory
at '0x0000000". The memory could not be "read"
It then closes My network places. Why am I getting this
error and how do I fix it?

Have you tried to restore your pc to an earlier time? ( system restore)

Sorry, not to sure why your getting that error, more than likely your registry needs tweeking, but I would first try sys restore.

Try clean-booting the machine to isolate the problem, see:

This issue has been seen with some Anti-Virus Applications
