Error message when trying to add a user to my website

I get the following error message when i try to add someone to help me manage
my website

The password file "/home/hoyle674/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.pwd" was not
created by this client program and cannot be edited safely using this client
program.

Anyone shed any light on this please?
 
Sounds and looks as if you're on an Apache / Unix server.
If so, you need to do it via the Web Masters Control Panel for your domain account.
