Error message when copying sheets

Hi,

On some documents (not all spreadsheets), I get an error
message when I try to copy a sheet. I get a dialogue box
that says:

"A formula or sheet you want to copy contains the
name 'a1', which already exists on the destination
worksheet. Do you want to use this version of the name?
- To choose the name as defined in the destination sheet,
click Yes.
- To rename the range referred to in the formula or
worksheet, click No, and enter a new name in the Name
Conflict dialog box."

I can then click yes or No. If I click Yes, I get the
same dialogue box for the name 'a2', then another, etc.
I have to click yes many many times before finally
getting the sheet copied.

The weird thing is that I don't use name in this
worksheet. In fact, there are no formulae - only some
values from a Copy / Paste Special Values and Paste
Special Formats.

What can I do?

Thanks,

JD

Update: It seems I can copy the first page I worked on
as much as I want. It's when I try to copy copies that
this problem arises...

thanks,

I bet you do really use that name in the worksheet.

I'd get a copy of Jan Karel Pieterse's (with Charles Williams and Matthew
Henson) Name Manager.

You can find it at:
NameManager.Zip from http://www.bmsltd.co.uk/mvp

(It really makes working with names easier. And you'll see what they point to.)

You must use R1C1 reference style. In A1 style, I couldn't even make a name
that looked like it might be an address.

I have the same problem and unable to find the names it
comes up with. I raelly do not believe it is to do with
formulae or ranges as I have non. I can copy and paste
special on to a new sheet but the problem always returns.
It seems to be something new as I have only had this
problem of late.

Thanks

Dave,

Thanks so much - you were right, I did have names - no
idea where they come from. There were 2500 of them,
listed when I did Insert, name, define.

The tool you recommended worked great. Thanks so much
for your help!

I don't understand what "...unable to find the names it comes up with" means.

Even if you use Jan Karel (and others) name manager?
