Error Message when acessing floppy/cd/dvd/cdr drives

I get the following message when Acessing any of my input
drives A:\ Not Acessible Incorrect Function
D:\ Not Acessible Incorrect Function
E:\ Not Acessible Incorrect Function

Curiously if I put in a blank CDR in the E drive and run
Nero the drive responds and makes copies that work on
other machines. Also D drive (DVD) will still play DVD's
and Audio Cd's through Power DVD and Musicmatch programs.
Presently all loss of function to the listed A D E drives
is through My Computer and windows explorer functions. I
am running 2k pro with sp4 installed as well as norton
2004 av and Internet Security. The only unusual thing
happening is the appearance of this symbol ~ as a file on
my desktop and in my c drive root directory. Have
submitted file to Norton SARC and they say it is not a
virus. Any help on the drive issue would be graetly
appreciated. Thanks

Try disabling Norton and see if the drives are usable again.

Remote possiblity something in here is to blame.
