I just installed PartitionMagic 8.0, updated it to 8.01,
and tried to resize the partitions on my new 120GB hard
drive. It aborted. I receive error message # 11019 which
Partition Magic website says is WinXP problem #1019. Has
anyone had this problem or do you have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

First, are you sure that your motherboard can handle a
disk as large as 120Gig? Some older boards have a limit
of 32Gig, and unpredictable things can happen when you try
a larger disk. Note that there is also a limit at about
137Gig (or 128Gig depending on whether a Gig is decimal or
binary), but that should not apply to your problem.

As I read error 11019 in my PM8 manual, it is an OS error
eqaul to 11019-10000=1019. That is not listed in the
manual, but the master error list on the PQ website says
that it is as follows (words between quotes below, more by
me later:

"Solution: Error 1019 Bitmap sectors not marked unavailable

Shut down and restart OS/2. If this does not resolve the
problem, run OS/2's CHKDSK program.
Try running PartitionMagic from another partition or from
a diskette.
Make sure that you have applied IBM's latest OS/2 hard
disk drivers that provide support for drives larger than 4
GB. These drivers are only necessary if you are working
on, or copying to a drive that is larger than 4 GB.

The latest drivers are available on IBM's FTP site at
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/os2ddpak/idedasd
..exe. It requires that the drive be configured in LBA
translation mode.
As a last resort, delete the file that is causing the
error. This file can usually be found by running a debug
report. This report contains a record of all the runtime
errors and problems PartitionMagic encountered."

First of all, this sounds like PM8 thinks that you are
running an operating system called OS/2, not XP. If so,
this is the wrong forum for help. If you are running XP,
then PM8 is not only unhappy, but it is confused.

However, there are a few hints contained in this error that
might apply to XP:

PM8 should always be run on error-free disks. To assure
this, run CHKDSK x: /R on every existing windows
partition, where "x:" is the drive letter, such as "C:".
The odds are high that XP will say that it can not do this
now, and would you like to do it during the next reboot.
Say Y, for yes. Reboot. After you return to windows, run
CHKDSK x:, without the /R. It should list no errors. Now
try PM again.

If you have non-windows partitions (e.g., LINUX), there
may be limits on resizing/merging, if the action causes
data to move from one type to another. instead, first try
shrinking one, creating unpartitioned space. Then in an
separate executeion of PM8, increase the size of the
other. By the way, for safety, I advise against stacking
partition operations.

If you can not run PM8 succesfully from windows, try
running it from the floppy disk set that it oferred to
create for you for rescue purposes. If you do not have
such a floppy set, make it before using PM8 any further!

Finally, send a request for help to powerquest support.
But, provide them with more info than you did this forum.
include make/model of PC, OS, other system level software
like GOBACK, description of old disks and partitions, new
disk and current partitions, how you prepare the new disk
(whose tools, or which FDISK), desired PM8 operation, etc.
