Error message "This document is being used by"

Each time I try to open a document an error message
appears stating the document is already open or is being
used by me - then I am prompted do I wish to make a copy?
What is wrong?

This question would be on topic and therefore you would be more likely to get a
helplful answer in one of the Office NGs. Try microsoft.public.office.misc for
a start. Although you don't specifically say so, I have looked at the Tarot
Cards and they have foretold that it is an MS Office App. for which you seek
information.
