Error message on shutdown: "The drive is not ready for use."

I get a brief flash of a window when XP shuts down. I haven't seen
anything in the Event Viewer. I finally saw it in slow-mo. It says:
"The drive is not ready for use. Its door may be open" That's all I
got before XP shut down.

I've heard that this is a legacy error message that used to relate to
5-1/4" floppies, and sometimes gets triggered by something else.

Does anyone have any idea what this is, or how I can freeze XP to get
the full message? A tracing utility would be nice, but I doubt that
anyone has thought about tracing shutdown.

Thanks, Rich. I've been meaning to do a RAM test anyway, but I don't
follow the connection between RAM integrity and the 'drive door'
message. Do you remember where you heard this?

I'd love to find a service/utility that can monitor XP shutdown and
log to a file (like the boot log does). Anyone know of anything?
I'm just looking for more clues at this point.
