Hello, I'm using outlook 2007 on a Vista machine. No problems for a very long
time until I tried to export files in .pst format to a usb pen drive flash
drive. When I try to do this, Outllok hung and I needed to reboot. On
re-starting Outllok 2007, there's now a constant message of

The path specified for the file k:Oultllok back up.pst is not valid

I dont know how to stop this. It doesnt appear if I leave the usb drive in
the usb slot, but I dont want to do this. Any guidance please?

Go into Control Panel-Mail-Data Files and remove the pst file from the
Profile.
BTW, what made you think you needed to do export to make a backup? Unless
you connect to Exchange Server then your Outlook data already is IN a pst
file. All you need to do to make a backup is to copy the file after closing
Outlook.

See here for more info:
How to backup and restore Outlook

http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010771141033.aspx

There is out-dated information on some of these pages, specifically with
regard to Outlook 2003 and 2007.

The main points to note:
1. Do NOT use the import/export function to move Outlook data from one
version to another - all you need to do is to copy the pst file, with
Outlook closed.

2. Do NOT paste the copied pst file into the default location - paste into
(for example) your Documents folder and then do File-Open-Outlook Data File
within Outlook.
