Hi Melvin,
Is this a blue screen issue or you can successfully enter the system?
If you encounter a blue screen issue, please know Blue Screen issue is
always caused by certain kernel potion errors. Unfortunately, debugging the
blue screen error is beyond what we can do in the newsgroups. A support
call to our product service team is needed for the debugging service.
Therefore, we suggest that you speak directly with a Microsoft Support
Professional so that the crash dump can be analyzed.
If you can successfully enter the system, please take a screen shot of the
message in including the detailed error report and send it to
(e-mail address removed) for research.
In addition, I have noticed you submitted another thread to discuss the
same issue in microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support. In order to keep
the thread clean, I would like to discuss the issue in this newsgroup.
Have you installed certain printer or scanner recently? According to my
research, this error message can occur due to some incorrect scanner or
printer driver. Please refer to the following article:
1. Last know good configuration.
===========================
Please boot your machine and press F8 to choose Last know good
configuration.
If you can enter the system, please perform the following steps:
A: Check the following KB
821690 Generic Host Process Error Message and a Flashlight Icon Appear
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=821690
B. If you have installed HP PSC 2510 Photosmart (all in one) printer, you
could try doing the following:
- Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Printers, Click on File, Server
Properties, Drivers tab
- Check to see if that print driver is listed there, if so, click on remove.
C. System restore
If you have enabled system restore, you may consider using the system
restore to restore the system to a previous good state.
The following article has addressed the system restore in winXP:
How to restore the operating system to a previous state in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084
In addition, as Sengupta has suggested, scan virus is always worth to have
a try.
I look forward to your reply.
Good luck!
Best regards,
