Some of my users have been getting this message:

Advanced INF Install: Error, could not locate INF
file "C:\WINNT\INF\AU_gdi.inf"

This started on 9-17-2004. I run an sus server on my
network, and run auto-updates on my workstations. Is
this a fix of some kind? If so, where can I get this
file so I can manually put it on the workstations?
..

Is it possible a program was deleted but a shortcut remains in the startup
folder? It sounds like this file was deleted (possibly as part of an
uninstall) but a shortcut or an entry in an ini file or the registry still
references it.

NO,

This started happening on several machines at the same
time, and nothing had been uninstalled from these
machines. It has happened to about 10 of my
workstations, all of them having 2000 OS on them.

I'm getting this message on a few of my computers here at
work also and unfortunatly have not located a viable
explanation, other than the question you asked as well. I
believe it is part of the Update (fix) for the recent jpeg
vulnerability.....
