error message 101

I was able to install the microsoft beta spyware and get
it to run successfully once, but the next time I tried to
open it I got an error message, something about error
101.... it then directed me to attempt opening it again
and if I continued to have trouble to contact
giantcompany. They in turn have directed me here. I
hope you can help, because the one time I was able to run
it helped my computer speed tremendously!! Thanks, Lori C

Can you say anything about the sequence of events between the successful
run, and the failure with this error message?

The standard recipe is:

1) ensure that you are logged in with administrator permissions on your
machine.
2) Go to control panel, add or remove programs, highlight Microsoft
Antispyware, and choose Change, then Update.

See whether that resolves the error.

Hi Bill,
Not sure if you followed what I did earlier in the week. I found on my
computer at work that the two SERVICE files were not loading. If I ran
gcasserv.exe and gcasDtserv.exe, then I could launch Anti Spy. Weird, but it
works. I had to do the same thing over again after a restart.

Thanks for posting the workaround. I'm glad it works, but I'd like to know
what it is that doesn't happen on such systems that prevents these services
from starting properly.
