Error in reading from DVD-rom

Jose

I am experiencing the following problem with my new Dell
8300 desktop (Windows XP home edition). Disks placed in
the DVD-ROM (drive D) are not recognized by the PC. Disk
are read properly only when I eject the disk using
the "eject" menu selection from My Computer icon. Dell
support tells me that I need to re-install the OS. Is
there any other way I can get the drives on my PC to work
properly?

Jose, try another IDE Channel. Maybe, as Primary Master on Secondary Ide
Channel. Try a different ribbon cable.
Make sure that you have DMA selected in Device Manager. rt click on
MyComputer>Select Properties>Hardware>
Device Manager>click + sign IdeAta/Atapi controllers rt click on Primary
Ide>Advanced Settings Enable DMA do the
same for the Secondary Ide controller.
