Error in connectivity in with SP2

I have a PPPoE ADSL connection to SBC which worked fine on my Athlon 2400
system. After installing SP2, I now get an icon in the system tray with a
yellow triangle with a "!" warning that the network has limited or no
connectivity. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the networking
components, still no fix.

If you have a third party firewall program that was active during the
installation of XP SP2, this could be the problem. Make sure the built-in XP
firewall is turned on and uninstall the third party firewall.

I unplugged the router and then plugged it back while rebooting.
I have SBC also, but I doubt the cause was the dsl service down.
