Error in chart with 2 different series...

SO I'm trying to put 2 different series on the same graph with different
chart types. One series as a line plot and one as a scatter XY. I put the
first series in a line chart because it's lets me use equally spaced dates on
the x-axis, and then the second series is in scatter plot.

This has worked fine up til now: For some reason, Excel wants to plot the
data from the second series far in the future (the year 4300), while the
first series plots fine. (all data is in dates between 1977 and 2003).
There are no mistypings, and I even played with the cell formats to see if
there was something hidden, but no luck. Any ideas?

A clue?: At first it tried to include a lattitude value I had mistakenly
included (it was treated as a serial, which equaled the year 5000 or
something), but even now that I've deleted that row and pasted the correct
information in a new sheet, I'm getting the same error.

Thanks.

PS - here is my data:

Hi,

The problem is the mixing of dates and categories.

Your line charts is plotting each point equi distance with the x values of 1
to 27, which is what you want.
However when you add the xy-scatter the dates are converted in to values
where
17-April-1977 is 28262
8-March-2002 is 37323

So you line chart is squashed to the left and your xy scatter is squashed to
the right.
Using the secondary X and Y axis is probably the most sensible thing to do.

Cheers
Andy
