Error: Help requested

All of a sudden I am getting the following error on some programs I have had
no problems running in the past.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for
running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose 'Close' to
terminate application.

Any ideas what went wrong? And how to repair it?

You can go to TechNet at microsoft,then select from the L.sub-menu,trouble
shooting- support,then select the event/error on-line diagnostic
utility.From thier
just enter the info.the utility will give data on it.
