Error display when capturing

Everytime I try to capture a video from my Canon camcorder connected to an
1EEE 394 port, a screen displaying "an unknown error has occurred" always
appears, before this would not happen and I was able to capture video, I
currently do not have a DVD decoder installed in my computer, is this part of
the problem?...please help!...thank you!
 
A dvd decoder won't help if the cam is a mini dv.
A dvd decoder won't help if the cam is a dvd cam, as MM doesn't work with
mpeg files.

Let us know what cam you have for more help.
