Error...D:\Windows\system32\netsetup.cpl

I installed the .net framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 from Windows Update
So now when I open the control panel I get the following error:
"An error occurred while windows was working with the Control Panel file
D:\Windows\system32\netsetup.cpl"

Can anyone help?

Hi,

Expand a new copy of that file. Start/run msconfig, click on "expand file"
(general tab)

File to expand: netsetup.cpl
From: X:\I386
To: C:\Windows\system32

Where X is whatever letter is assigned your CD drive (you need your WinXP CD
for this), change it accordingly. If your system was preinstalled, you may
find this instead on the hard drive under C:\Windows\I386 or simply C:\I386.
If so, change the "from" line accordingly. This assumes a default
installation to C:\Windows. If your installation is in a different folder,
such as C:\Winnt, change the "To" path accordingly. Reboot when finished.

being the computer illiterate that I am, I am getting the same response to my
control panel, except that it is C:\. Where do I even go to find the
msconfig to click on the expand file---as I said computer illiterate! Thanx
for any help----I do know that I have the C:\1386 file.

Hi,

C:\I386 (and that is a letter "I", not a number "1") is the folder storing
the original system file set, and should be fine for these purposes. To open
msconfig, generally you just hit start/run and type it in. If you cannot
open it this way, then you will find the actual file here:

C:\Windows\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries

Just double click it to start. If it doesn't open, then you may be infected
by a virus.

Hi Kathsacct,

Click start/run, type msconfig and click ok. Go to the startup tab, uncheck
the line that loads ipmon32. Click apply/ok and reboot - see if this
resolves it.
