Yep, make sure all your XP updates are in order and you've got the latest.
Install (or make sure you have) DirectX9b and thenre-install WMP9 on top of
itself.
Unfortunately the error code you gave is basically XP saying "I haven't got
a clue doctor, but something's wrong".
What other software (including that turning away in the background) do you
have open at the same time ? Conflict ?
