error code 4

hi,

both of my optical drives (memorex dvd and sony cdrw) are
no longer visible and device manage lists a code 4
registry error. i think this is after a conflict between
adaptec easy cd creator and magik mp3 maker platinum.
both of these are uninstalled. i have tried reinstalling
both drives via device manager, and the drivers. all to no
avail. I have also tried checking the permissions in
registry as detailed by troubleshooting.

I do not know if this is at all related to "Upper Filters" or not

You may possibly need to remove the hardware, boot, clean up, shutdown
and re-connect the hardware as part of the overall process.
