Error Code 1500

For about the last 90 days or so, 9 out of 10 times I try to install
something, I receive an error code 1500, stating that another installation is
in progress and must be finished before that installation can complete it's
installation. It doesn't matter if I'm just downloading an update for my hp
all-in-one printer or an update to some sort of software already installed on
my computer. It is so-oooo frustrating and I don't know how to fix this. The
operating system I have on my computer is Windows xp-home edition.

Hi,
Perhaps you have started an installaton that requires a reboot to complete
the installation and you have not yet rebooted. Try rebooting before you
attempt another installation.

Hi - I'd like to join this discussion because I am having the same problem as
Jodi. I tried rebooting as Rose suggested, but that did not help. On
another newsgroup, I saw the suggestion to download and run the Windows
Installer Cleanup Utility. The problem is I cannot install this utility
because during the downloading I once again get the Error 1500 indicating
another installation is in progress. In other words, I cannot even install
the cleanup utility to try to fix the install problems.

In addition to the Error 1500 message, I also have a window popping up
irregularly that reads: Windows Installer..."Preparing to Install" even
though I am not aware of anything I'm trying to install.

As Jodi said, it is very frustrating because nothing can be installed on the
computer. I also use Windows XP (Professional).
