Hi I am at my wits end. Here is the situation. I have a PCMCIA modem, a
3-com 3CXM556 to be exact. I also have a PCI to PCMCIA bridge installed on
my desktop computer. I inserted the modem in the PCMCIA slot on my
computer...Win XP is quick to recognize it and install the drivers for it
from Microsoft. HOWEVER, XP is configuring it to run on IRQ 00 which it has
a conflict with....in the device manager IRQ 00 is assigned to the System
Timer and Standard PC however if I try to change the IRQ to something else it
will not let me.

I looked in the device manager and saw that IRQ 5 is not assigned to
anything and I thought I could assign this modem to run on IRQ 5, but since
windows will not let me change the IRQ I don't know what to do? My only
thought was to try installing the modem using the drivers from 3-com, howver
if I uninstall the driver for the modem that XP automatically installed in
the device manager and take the modem out and restart, XP only goes ahead and
auto detects it upon reboot. Not sure if it helps but here is the URL to the
modem on 3-com's site:

Try installing the Modem Drivers from Safe Mode. On next Startup tap
F8 repeatedly until you get a Menu. Select Safe
Mode from the Menu.

Thank you, however after conversation with the support guys at ActionTech I
found that the PC-750 pci card was faulty and windows was not able to
identify the ide/atai bridge. I am a waiting a replacement card...hopefully
that will fix the issue.
