Hello Pastor,,

Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
administratºr.

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from Windows update and signature update
with Windows Defender will fail until you hªve these f!les.

For the benefit of the community reading this post, please rate the pºst.

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Hi Pastor,

Just for the record. After your visit to WU. What version are you now
showing? Mine indicates
Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1593.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1904.0
Definition Version: 1.14.1950.9

Does that check out with you?

I'm not familiar with that error number, my data base don't recognise it.

Hi Pastor,

First remove all temporarily junk with CCleaner, running in safe mºde.

Ccleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com
http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp

Note, When you install Ccleaner, uncheck the Yahoo tool bar option.

Note, in Options, Advanced, uncheck - Only delete files in Windows folders
older than 48 hours.

Note: uncheck in Applications, the box for Utilities.

Do a scan with ALL the check marks on.

Open Ccleaner and press "Windows" "Applications" and Run Cleaner from the
menu choose 'Issues' and then press scan for issues, Repair any fºund.

Run twice Ccleaner, the same as above,

Reboot.

Go here:
http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm
Look for the broom Clean up, also Tune Up..

Now, test this WGA diagnose test, connection to MS, that scripts working and
a new Validation tool
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/

Follow these steps, even though the original cause of the problem appears
not to apply.

Well - I tried it all and unfortunately same problem. I have since
uninstalled and reinstalled Defender and it still will not connect.

Please try this one more time.

Exit Windows Defender, go to Add/remove programs. Unistall Windows Defender.

Reboot to safe mode, and run Ccleaner.

Reboot.

I'd recommend re-downloading WD, and saving to a known location--like the
desktop.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...E7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en

After the download is complete, disable real-time protection by your
antivirus for long enough to do the installation.

Please disable or turn off as much other software that always runs as you
can--real time antivirus scanning, any other antispyware software, (Stop all
programs that are open in the bottom taskbar) etc.

Install WD.

Do not go for the Update yet. (Disconet from the Internet)

Reboot.

Now go to Windows Update and applying all offered critical updates.

Also, could you supply some information on what your OS is, firewall,
anti-virus, other RTP programs, etc?

Hi, I'm new to posting here. I've uninstalled and re-installed windows
defender and now starts at 8 bit graphics...very dissapointing and
toublesome. I'm running a Gateway GT 5032 media center edition with nVIDIA
GeForce 6100 video card with windows XP media center 2005 edition. How can I
adjust this so it doesn't mess with the graphics setting? Of which, I have to
readjust everytime I turn on.

Tried that - didn't work. Thanks for continuing to help...this has got me
totally stumped.

My OS: XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Anti-virus: Norton Anti-Virus 2004

That's it

Hi Pastor,

Here's another route to getting this fixed.

Version: 1.1.1593.0 That upgrade includes up to two free telephone support
calls to
Microsoft in support of it.

Simply state that you are looking for this fix and don't discuss other
issues on
the call, and there won't be any charge--call the number for paid support in
your area.

If you need more immediate help with this and are in the U.S. or Canada, you
can call 1-866-pcsafety to get free help from Microsoft PSS with virus or
security patch related issues. It isn't crystal clear that this is a virus
issue, but I think it is close enough that they will help you investigate to
be sure.

Your situation definitely qualifies as a Version: 1.1.1593.0 situation.
(the free help folks are a different operation from the paid support folks,
but given your circumstances, I think you clearly qualified for the free
help, and they
should have at least let you know about it.)

You can mention to them this:

You, (install and update and unistall) as a administratºr.

You gº to Windows Update, and select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

You remove all temporarily junk with CCleaner, running in safe mºde.

You run
http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm
Looking for the broom Clean up, also Tune Up..

You, test this WGA diagnose test, connection to MS, that scripts working and
a new Validation tool
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/

You run KB 918355, also KB 915105
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918355
Special attention on the section of Microsoft Knowledge Base article 915105

You, Exit Windows Defender, you remove in Add/remove programs. And Unistall
Windows Defender.

You re-download WD, and saving to a known location--like the desktop.

Remember, don't discuss other issues

Feel free to mention that I sent you. ;-)
