I know how to find the winlogon file in Event Viewer to get error checking
results in WinXP. However, there is no discussion group for WinNT, so I was
hoping someone might know how to find the corresponding error checking log
file results in WinNT. There is an Event Viewer in WinNT
(Start>Programs>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer), but I can't find anything
there or just don't know what it's called if there. Scandisk logs were easy
to find.

Hi HMT,

Check Event Viewer's Application log for events from Source: Autochk

There are indeed several newsgroups for WINNT (eg.,
microsoft.public.windowsnt and microsoft.public.windowsnt.misc), it may just
be that they are not made available through the web-based discussion groups
that you are using.

Regards,

Thanks for your feedback Patti, but autochk is not listed in the Source
column of my WinNT Event Viewer. I visually scanned the whole column during
the day I ran the error check. When I click View>Find under Event Viewer,
autochk is also not listed as one of the Source search options. - Guess I'll
try one of the other groups you listed.

Patti,

I just found Microsoft's KB161801 published Nov.1, 2006 on this issue. It
describes a bug they are researching that probably explains why autochk is
not listed in my Event Viewer Source column. Instead, I get Disk as the
Source and Event ID 41 with message described in KB161801. Here's an excerpt
from the KB article.

SYMPTOMS
When you run chkdsk <drive_letter>: /f, you may receive the following event
in the system event log:
Event ID: 41
Source: Disk
Description: The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable.
Please run the chkdsk utility on the device Device\Harddiskx\Partitionx with
label "xxxx".

The only difference in my case is I don't use the command above, instead, I
use error checking under C:>Options>Tools. I assume it runs the same command.

Waiting on Microsoft...

HMT
