Error: Cannot complete the CD Writing Wizard

Assume I want to backup My Documents folder in a CD. I use for that task the
software included in my pc (Roxio Digital Media, RDM)
Everything ok until now.

Now suppose I want to update only one file in the backup CD. RDM doesn't
allow that: I would have to backup again the full folder. So I use windows xp
built in cd recorder. After a while, when it seems everything is OK I get
this error:

"Cannot complete the CD Writing Wizard. There was an error in the writing
process. The disc you have attempted to write may no longer be usable."

However, files are recorded properly and CD is not damaged - I can use
windiff or winmerge and every file is exactly the same that in My Documents.
If I repeat the task for updating another file, the same happens: error
message but files OK.

This didn't use to happen. The problem appeared suddenly, apparently without
no reason. I could fix it but I would need to reinstall win xp and all my
software, so it's not well worthy.

Any idea on what's happening? I'm running win xp home sp3

XP doesnt have a "CD Recorder"..XP uses built in wizard.Either way,try useing
xp file transfer wizard, set to "old computer",select files to save, save in
a new
folder you created,once thru,R.click the folder,select:write to cdrw/dvd

XP's built-in CD tools will only write to empty CDs. It will not
erase before write the one "newer" file.

Hi, smlunatick;
Yes, I know that, but note 3 things:
1)Files are in fact overwritten in the CD (there are multiple sessions).
2)The error occurs AFTER having overwritten the files or added some new files.
3)Despite the error, files are OK (new and old ones) and media is NOT
damaged.
