error applying security message

I'm getting an "error applying security" message when I
try to reset permissions on a folder in Windows 2000
Server.

It states Error Applying Security - the name of the
folder or file - Access is Denied. This only happens with
some files and folders, not all of them.

Does anyone know how to get around this and reset the
permissions?

Try running Disk Check on the computer to check for/fix any corruption on the derive
and if that does not help try changing the permissions in safe mode or using a
command line utility like xcalcs. --- Steve
