Today all of a sudden I am getting an asterisk inside a yellow sign saying:
Launch Intel Storage Facility
A hard drive in the system reports that it may fail
Can someone tell me what this means? Seems as if I should be worried!

Thank you!

maybe google with "S.M.A.R.T. harddisk"

HD's sort of diagnose themselves and keep a report of its findins
somewhere on its electronics.
You can get at this report with a program like SMARTDISK or
drivehealth.

Basically it means that you should back up that drive right away and replace
it. If there is any data that is of value to you on that drive, shut the
system down now and do not use it again till you are ready to replace it.

Drives these days come with diagnostic software built-in to detect imminent
failure and notify you, and that's what's happening. Take it seriously.

It's very easy to "clone" and replace hard disks these days, and not very
expensive. I regularly see 80-gig drives for about CDN$60, and cloning
software can be free from the manufacturer's website or you can use the
Acronis True Image trial version, which is full-featured for 15 days. The
cloning process can take under half an hour, depending on the contents of
the drive. Aside from that, you just make sure the jumper settings on the
new drive are the same as the old, then connect the cables in the same way,
and install the four screws holding the drive in.
