I get this error message and that there is something 2% in my drive. Is it
Microsoft fault? I have signature version 1.14.1358.2 installed and I can't
remove it with the usual "Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}"
in the RUN action.

Hello Winspy,

try:
Start/Add-Remove Software/WD/Information/Repair
try to update with WD/Help/About
els goto Windows Update and try there.

The exact error message is as follows:
Windows Defender was unable to comeplete the update:
0x80240022. Thw wrong diskette is in the drive. Insert %2 (Volume Serial
Number: %3) into drive %1.

Tried removing the signature.
Tried Help > About > Update

Still happening.

I believe this message is a bug. Let me see if I can find the note I have
about it:

Steve Dodson posted this in response to this error--it was very early in the
beta, so I don't know if it is still valid--let me know whether it does the
job:
------------------------------

1) Uninstall WD thru Add and Remove Programs

2) Launch cmd prompt

3) MsiExec.exe /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}

4) Delete all contents of Directory of C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Definition Updates

5) Reinstall WD

I have followed these very steps and I continue to get the error 80240022 but
I can update through the Windows Update web site. I have had this problem
with all 4 of my machines since the day that the Windows Defender Beta 2 came
out. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

When you say "since the day that ...." Was that before April 12? If so,
one thing to try is to re-download. New code was posted April 12th with
some update fixes in it. All users will be notified eventually, but you can
update to it by just doing a new download and running the installer. You'll
need to re-visit your Spynet membership if you want greater than basic, and
you may want to look at the tools options settings to see what's new and
different.

The day I installed it referenced, within a week of it coming out and being
available. I have had this continued problem. I also just downloaded the
new 1347 last night before I posted hoping that would take care of the issue.
Still have the problem though.

OK--let me see if I have this right:

You can update all 4 machines fine via Windows Update, but AutoUpdate fails
on all 4 with this message?

Is there a firewall or proxy involved that would be in common with the 4
machines?

Can you try an AutoUpdate from within the program--help, about, check for
updates. Let that fail, then grab the tail end of
\windows\windowsupdate.log and post just the bit related to the failed
attempt?

MSI logging may also be helpful as well :)
