Getting error 678 with ethersplit network.
Ok, here's what I've done so far.
Reset tcp/ip stack
reinstalled winsock.
installed brand new NIC (linksys with xp verified drivers)
Had verizon verify building wiring was good (wiring is
immaculate)
Recreated PPPoE connection mulitple times.

Notable items:
third-party PPPoE software had never been installed on
this machine.
XP pro
NIC shows solid green
In the registry, under HKLM/Services, there was
CurrentControlSet (like normal) and also Current Control
Set (not normal) I didn't expand under the Current
Control Set to see what was listed as this support was
all done telephonically, but I suspect this is going to
be linked to the issue somehow.

Any help I could get would be very much appreciated.

Error 678 is ERROR_NO_ANSWER

Is it possible that the PPP server is not responding?

Unfortunately, no. I only wish this was the case. We have about 1900 PPPoE
customers in the router now, and I don't believe our authentication servers
have a maximum user limit. Ct ended up formatting her box after system file
checker and an in-place upgrade failed to resolve the issue. It's working
now, but I wish I could figure out what was causing this.
