I continue to see the following but can't locate what app
is having the problem - or how to correct it. Any
suggestions?

Type: Failure Aud
Event ID: 529
USER: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: Actius

Description:
Logon Failure:
Reason: Unknown user name or bad
password
User Name: tomt
Domain: ACTIUS
Logon Type: 2
Logon Process: Advapi
Authentication Package: Negotiate
Workstation Name: ACTIUS

[The event occurred on Windows XP if the machine environment meets the
following criteria:
- The machine is a member of a domain.
- The machine is using a machine local account.
- Logon failure auditing is enabled.
When the user logs off, Windows will write event ID 529 to the log file because
the OS incorrectly tries to contact the domain controller (DC), despite the
fact that the machine is using a local account. Microsoft currently doesn't
provide a fix for this problem, but you can safely ignore this event ID.]

Well, it explains what is happening, but not why.

I didn't make any changes to my PC except the "Auto
Update" patches being applied. These entries just started
showing up.

XP running on laptop - no domain - no logon failure
auditing changes since new
Dual-booting SuSe Linux 9.0 with ZERO error messages

tomt;
I think this is the key sentence.
