Error 1722

When upgrading from Windows 2000 Pro to Windows XP Pro I
get:

"Error 1722. An error occurred while performing the task.
There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A
program run as part of the setup did not finish as
expected. Contact your support personnel or package
vendor."

This has happened on about half the computers I have tried
it on (approximately 20). I have tried running this
upgrade through a group policy and manually after copying
the files local. I have tried to remove and reinstalle
Windows Installer but have had no luck on this front.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Somewhere in this upgrade it looks like you're reinstalling some MSI-based
product, but I can't tell from your message what's going on. Do you know
what is being updated, which product or MSI file? The error often means some
internal vendor code isn't working, perhaps VBScript. It might be that you
haven't got some Windows component installed that the code needs. If you are
manually installing a particular MSI file you can create a log when you do
that, and the log will sshow the failing code.
