I have been running Microsoft AntiSpyware since its
release to the public. I have not encountered any
problems until now. I receive the following error
message:
"Error Loading Microsoft AntiSpyware. Warning.
Microsoft AntiSpyware has encountered a critical error
(error 101). Please restart Microsoft AntiSpyware
again. If you continue to experience this problem,
please contact Microsoft technical support at
(e-mail address removed) for immediate assistance."

I contacted the above and was directed to this site. The
only changes that I have recently made to my system are
some changes to the services that are running. I am
using Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2.

* If you see a dialog box with the following message after you start your computer or when you start Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware, you need to repair or reinstall Windows AntiSpyware. The following message can also refer to Error 102 or Error 103:

Warning: Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware has encountered a critical error (Error 101). Please restart Windows AntiSpyware and run the program again. If you continue to experience this problem, please uninstall the program and install the most recent version of Windows AntiSpyware. You can use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel to uninstall this version of Windows AntiSpyware.

You can repair Windows AntiSpyware using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Click Microsoft AntiSpyware and click Change. Click Next, and then click Update.

If you see the critical error message again, uninstall Windows AntiSpyware and reinstall it. To do this, use Add or Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. Click Microsoft AntiSpyware and click Remove. You can reinstall Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware at www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software

I, too, made some changes to Services and am now getting the 101 error. I've
tried
all you suggested, including uninstalling and re-dl'g the program. Nothing
works.

Umm - changes to services is rather unspecific. I would suggest reversing
those changes?

I was unspecific because I couldn't rem all the changes I made.... so, I
turned on all services hoping by process of elimination I could find which
one(s)
caused the prob. But, no-o-o-o.

Also, now when I try to change/uninstall the prog via Add/Remove, I get
"Windows Installer Service could not be accessed." error.
