Error 0x80244001

Can someone please help me.

I installed Windows Defender on a friend's machine and the program is unable
to update to the most recent definitions. I keep getting a message stating
that the definitions haven't been updated in 131 days.

Here is the specific error:

"Windows Defender was unable to complete the update: 0x80244001."

Appreciate any assistance.
