Hello
last week I reformatted my harddrive and reinstalled all my software,
including windows XP. All went fine untill after a week my pc whent in stand
by mode. After this I was unable to restart, I couldnt do anithing except
shut down. (next error message appeared on skreen: A problem is preventing
windows from accurately checking the license
for this computer. ERROR 0x80090006)
I shearched the net for this error, and I found that it was prity common
(see mail bellow) when installing a new hard drive. But the problem is that I
did not install a new hard drive...
Is there an easy fix for this problem? Can it happen again after I reformat
and install everithing again?
"Error 0x80090006" When You Restart Windows XP After You Restore Your
Computer from Backup
SYMPTOMS
When you restart your computer after you restore Windows XP from
backup, you may receive the following error message:
A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license
for this computer. ERROR 0x80090006
CAUSE
This issue may occur if you replace a hard disk, and then restore
Windows XP to the new hard disk from a backup. When you restore
Windows XP to a new hard disk, the hardware ID for the restored
Windows XP computer changes. The new hardware ID prevents the
computer from verifying the license correctly because the hardware
hash no longer matches the hardware hash that was used for the
original product activation.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, after you restore the computer from a backup,
perform an in-place upgrade of Windows XP, and then reactivate the
Windows XP license.
