erratic cursor

Brand new ibm laptop T42, factory loaded Office 2003 and
XP as o.s.
In Word, my cursor has erratic, random action:

1. when typing text, I sometimes find the cursor dozens
of lines above my working line.

2. when entering data in a box (forms, log-on boxes,
etc.), the cursor will sometimes jump out of the box.

Learn to keep your hand from brushing the mousepad while you're typing.
Often a challenge with a new laptop. Some laptops have a mousepad
sensitivity adjustment that might help.
