Hello, I just got a 256mb thumbdrive and am looking for ways to make it even
more useful. can I create an erd on it? can the various boot disks be
created on it?

just wondering
Kevin

FYI, the ERD floppy disc created by Windows 2000 is not bootable. The ERD is
used as part of the repair procedure after starting the system with the Windows
2000 CD.

You can read about this procedure in the "Windows 2000 Professional Getting
Started" book that came with your Windows 2000 CD.

Your best bet for booting from alternate OSes is to burn them to a CD-R or CR-RW
disc.

ok, so it's win2k disk, choose repair and use erd. can the usb thumbdrive be
used if it was used for the erd?

if the bios allows it, can the thumbdrive be used instead of a cd-r? seems
easier that way.

I doubt it, but you can test this yourself by first trying to create an ERD on
the thumbdrive.

First, you must have a BIOS that will allow you to boot with a USB device, then
look around for drivers to support your thumbdrive.

AFAIK, some versions of Ghost can boot from a USB device.

Keep in mind that USB is a connection type, rather than a device type. That is,
"USB" specifies a method for communicating between computer components or
between a computer and external devices or other computers.
