erasing CD's

I have not used CD's much. I just used one to transfer some files. Now I
want to erase the CD. I tried using Delete. It said these files are read
only and I can't delete them. But I created the CD via the normal read-write
method, and it is a read-write CD, so what's the trick to erase the files? I
should also note that I tried Windows Help. It told me to use the feature
"Erase this CD-RW". I could find delete but I could find erase this CD as a
selection. Thanks for your help.

Are you sure you're using a CD-RW?

You can't erase CD-R's.

Hi,

Open Windows Explore with the CD in the drive. Click on the drive, "erase
this CD" should be in the common tasks pane on the left if it is a CDRW (you
cannot erase a CDR). If the common tasks pane is not showing, click
view/explorer bar and make sure none of the additional views are checked.

You may inadvertantly be using a CD/R and these cannot be erased. This may
be the reason why you are experiencing your problem. If you go to windows
explorer then highlight the cd-rom drive. If windows explorer is in folder
view i.e, the directories/folders on listed in the left pane, click the X to
open the task view. If the CD is a CD/RW there should be an option in the CD
Writing tasks section marked 'Erase this CD-RW'
That is assuming you are using the Windows XP CD burning software. If you
are suing something like Roxio CD Creator software then you can open the CD
Creator and click disc on the main toolbar, then click on the erase disc
option. If you are using the drag to disc application of Roxio you can
format or erase from the drag to disc menu.
