EPSON Stylus 600

The EPSON web site says that MS 2000 XP includes a driver for EPSON Stylus
600 Color printer. However, the photos are of poor quality and I have lost
functionality (ink monitor, etc.) since installing the new OP system.
Anybody else have this problem. Any suggestions. Another printer, perhaps??

Everyone who installs this unit under XP will have the same issue. The
native driver for this model provides basic functionality, just enough to
perform basic printing tasks. The status monitor was never part of the
driver anyway, but a separate download.

I recommend that you purchase an XP-compatible printer (something from Canon
would be an excellent choice) and donate that one to a local school (I have
done this with several of my old, but still functioning, machines - 5 year
olds don't tend to care what their work looks like - they're just fascinated
by the idea of their work coming out of the printer!)

Loss of the ink monitor is an advertised "feature" on the Epson site.

As for photo quality, I'm not sure how the driver could do this---what
exactly is the problem?

I used to have a 600 (great printer), and had trouble getting win 2000
drivers. I wound up using a 640 driver. I also recently solved a Photo 900
problem by installing an 890 driver. Epson of course is not help when you
go this route.

If you are concerned about photo quality, then send the 600 to printer
heaven, and get a 6-color printer. Otherwise, you might try drivers for
different models.

Mark - it's simple. The native driver is basic, and I don't believe it
offers resolutions above 360dpi - not exactly good enough for photos (not
that the SC600 was a photo printer anyway - did such a thing exist back
then?)

Well you don't have a SM and you certainly won't be able to print at 1440dpi

My mistake, the SM is gone! Haven`t seen it before. But I belive I can print
1440dpi there is a difference between normal, fine, and superfine.
360-720-1440 I think.

Mclou,
I had an Epson 600. Good printer. Sorry to say that XP won't do the color
monitor.
Time to replace it with a Canon i860 or an i560. Sams Club has an i560s
(s standing for Sams Club, I think) for $89.00. It comes with a USB cable
which usually runs about $20.00. Which means the printer ends up costing you
about $69.00.Not much more than a set of ink cartridges and it's a great
printer.
When I got rid of my 600 (Black head clogged) I bought an Epson C82.
Could not print photos on glossy paper. It was loud and compatable ink was
not cheep and some were not any good. Gave up on Epson and bought a Canon
i850.I don't think i'll go back to Epson again. This Canon is jaw dropping
awesome.
For what it's worth.
