Not true. Have you visited the EPSON website lately? I did this morning
and
they have new drivers ready for a lot of products. Don't condem a company
with
hearsay or with what you think. ACT first, then speak.

I've visited their web site regularly because they promissed 'they
would provide
drivers for MOST Epson products once Windows Vista is available at
retail stores'.
Well, at least Epson doesn't provide a Vista driver for my Epson
Perfection 610 scanner.

There are 15 scanners enlisted at the new Vista driver page, and the
Epson's driver
download page shows more than 30 scanner models.(I didn't count the
exact number)
Now I don't know the definition of 'MOST'.

vista drivers.

that's why I dumped my hp printer.

Watch out--HP says the same thing. "No Vista drivers ever for my 3970 scanner."

Mikey:
I have an Epson CX3800 and CX4800. No drivers are listed for Vista yet for either all-in-one, but they both function completely with Vista x86 & x64. Download the x86 or x64 (depending on your system) printer and twain drivers, unzip them to C:Epson but don't install, go to add printers, have disk, point to the respective printer driver in C:Epson, install. After a reboot the scanner should then be picked up, then install the respective scanner driver. To install the Epson Scan software, after the printer and scanner are installed run the "setup.exe" file from the scanner file. Have a great day.

That seems to be the secret, and not just for Epson. I've done it since W2K to
get my old HP Scanjet 5P working -- it's detected and shows in Device Manager
but the VISTA built in scanning does not know it is there. But, in my case,
the HP software works fine and it's probably WIN95 generation <g>.

My Epson 1200S scanner did not have Vista drivers at the Epson Web site. So
I tried my NT/2k/XP drivers. There was some error the first time I tried
installing. Then Vista offered to try again with "recommended settings," so
I let it try. This time it installed without error, albeit slowly. I am
now able to scan from Vista's Paint accessory.

will give this a try and post back.
the driver package installed on vista 64 ultimate but it seems to be a problem with usb communication. when it gets to the point of telling you to turn on your printer to complete, it just sits here does not recognize that the printer has been turned on,

do not know if your way will make a difference or not.

HAPPY to report that this procedure did work somewhat.
took a couple extra steps, but the drivers did eventually get installed.
after the reboot, it did not auto start installing scanner, had to force it.
it prints, have not tried scanner YET.

MANY MANY thanx.

According to the Epson website my Epson Perfection 1660 scanner will never have
vista drivers.

The same for my Epson 2480 scanner. However, after Googling around I
discovered that Epson UK did have drivers for both Vista x86 and x64.

I did.
You didn't

What do YOU call a lot?

Other mfg basically upgrade ALL, understand all?

I'm talking about 1 and two year old scanners that are not bottom line.
Look at the other answers.
Anyway, when I upgrade to Vista, my scrapped Epsons will NOT be replaced
with other Epsons

Out of a myriad of equipment and software as much as 7 years old, Epson
stands alone as negative.

I'll probably try something like that, see if Vista will tweak it or try another scanner driver.

I found the answer to my Epson Scanner Driver problem on the Epson UK web
site. This "epson" site has drivers that are not yet available on the US
site.
The url is: http://www.epson.co.uk/
I had looked everywhere for the Vista driver for Epson Perfection 2580 and
was happy to locate it on the UK site. BJ Perone

I have a question about how you got the CX4800 to install in Vista. I
have the X86 version of Vista Ultimate. I am trying to follow your
directions but I'm sure I did something wrong. If I leave the printer
off and try to add printer, it tries to put it on an LPT or virtual
port. If I turn it on and let it detect, it tells me that there is no
compatible Vista driver. I am fairly computer literate but new to
Vista. Can you explain in a little more detail? I would appreciate it.

I have a Perfection 2400 USB scanner by Epson, and they are not supporting
it in Vista. If you're trying to install a scanner on Vista that still
connects via parallel port, you're probably SOL.

FYI,
just a couple of days ago Epson USA put up a batch of Vista scanner drivers,
included was Perfection 2400, (also my perfection 4180 Photo which now works
fine).

Michael
(still waiting for Stylus Photo R220 however).

Jazzgirl:
This way may be easier for you. Download the XP printer and twain
drivers (printer will be epson11756.exe, scanner will be epson 11530.exe.).
Unzip & install the scanner driver first then the printer driver, following
screen directions. If the printer and scanner function properly you're done.
If they don't work, turn the printer off, reboot. The printer and scanner
drivers were unzipped to C: Epson. Turn on the printer, the installing
drivers icon will appear, usually it will ask for the scanner media first,
click have disk, point to C: epson/epson 11530 (scanner), continue, then it
will install the printer, have disk, point to C: epson/epson 11756
(printer), continue. Have a great day.

You know that you usually have to install printer software before you
first connect the printer and its USB cable to the PC?

Check you installation instructions carefully to see what it says about
this.

Before you try this uninstall any printer software that you see in
whatever VISTA calls Add/Remove Programs, delete the icon for the
printer in Control Panel / Printers and check that the printer is not
referred to in Device Manager down at the bottom when you expand the
USB listings.

After you have done all that and with the printer and its USB cable
disconnected, reboot the computer and start as in the instructions
which as I said may be to install software first.
