Epson Photo Stylus printers connected to print server on router

Dan

Hi All-

I am trying to decide between the Epson Stylus Photo 960 and the Epson
Stylus Photo 2200 printers. I was also considering the Epson Stylus Photo
1280, but I don't like the fact that it does not have the separate color
cartridges. I like the fact the the Epson Stylus Photo 2200 does large
format printing, but I don't know if I want to cough up the extra bucks.
From what I have read, the Epson Stylus Photo 960 is a better choice if I
also want to use it for text printing too.

I have a Siemens 2624 wireless router with a built in print server. My old
HP 660CSE performs fine connected to the router. It also performed fine
with my old SMC router with built in print server.

Here's my question. Will either one of these printers work with my router's
print server, and if so, are there any gotchas?

Thanks!

They should both work fine. The Print server mearly acts as a media
converter from the network to parallel or USB dependant on which one you
have. The drivers still reside on the PCs which use the printer

I have an Epson CX6400 connected this way, no problems.

A better choice for text printing, I see. But is it a more economical
choice than, say, a dot matrix printer for the same purpose -- that
of printing huge numbers of text?

I'm sorry for snipping the rest of your post which also had your
actual question in it, but I don't have an answer for your question.

Regarding the Epson Photo Stylus printers through a print server, I
have found that the printer works just fine, but the printer
diagnostics utility, called Status Monitor 3, that comes with the
Epson printer doesn't work. I have an Epson Stylus Photo 820 and the
Status Monitor can no longer detect ink levels when connected through
the print server.

Cheers
Pat

Unless you have a bi-directional printer port on there, or a USB printer
port on the print server.

I ordered the Epson Stylus Photo 960 and it should arrive in a few days. My
router does not support bi-directional printing, but the printer would be
close enough to one of the computers to plug in the USB cable. Would it be
possible to have the printer plugged into the router for sharing purposes,
but to plug it into one of the computers to monitor ink levels?

Thanks!

What is it with the Epson printers? I have a C80 and I was told by Epson
Tech Support that the driver that monitors the ink levels only works on
XP. I had Win2k at the time. I am using XP now and that crap still
doesn't work.

I don't know. But the status monitor for my, now dead, ESC 480 was
very unreliable on both Windows 98 and XP -- XP couldn't find a
native driver for my printer, so I had to install the one that came
with it.

Yes you can use both the USB conection and parallel, but not at exactly the
same time. They can both be connected and used but dont print to both at the
same time, else the printer will crash.

I have a net applaince plugged onto my printer and a USB cable running to
one of six computers, all comps can print and the one moniters the status
of the printer just fine.

Can the Epson CX6400 connect to a computer via USB or parallel and be
used like a "regular" printer? Or is it meant to only be a
stand-alone copier & scanner?

Thanks!

Its standalone, as well as a USB scanner/printer/memory card reader. There
is NO parallel connection. Only USB 2.
