Epson 1240U Transparencies

I'm looking for an inexpensive method of viewing older negatives (up
to 4 in x 5 in); viewing but then relying upon pro services for
transfer to print film. I have the above Epson w/o the transparency
unit. What options are there for viewing transparecies other than the
1240U transparency unit? I see other units that appear almost
standalone ie. set them on the glass w/o any apparatus inside/on top
of the scanner cover.

Thanks for any and all

Those other ones DO have tranny adaptor built into the lids, usually with
sliding covers you pull off when you do film.
Epson 2400, 3200, 4870, etc.

I have an old Epson 1200 with a transparency unit and have used it to scan
4x5 negatives. The Epson twain driver is adequate for B&W but not color
materials--Vuescan works well for those. If you can get hold of a
transparency adapter for your scanner that would work well. Otherwise there
are better new scanners for under $200 with built in transparency unit.
