Entering today's date

How do you enter current date into a new document then prevent that field

Instead of using the Insert > Date dialog, use Insert > Field and select a
CreateDate field.

Jay - that does work re: depositing today's date in the field on open, but it
updates that date every time you open that document..... what I'm trying to
do is stamp the field with today's date, once, when it's opened as a new
document.... and then prevent that document's date field from changing if you
open it on another day.... the whole point of this is to permanently register
the date the document was created on the signature line of the document form.
any suggestions?

Patricia,

Hopefully you are using a template or (.dot file) to create each new
document. If that is the case, don't supply a formfield for the date.
Use a {CreateDate} field in the template. The date "deposited" will be
the date the document was created. If you create one today and open it
next week it will still show today's date.

The CreateDate field, no matter how often you "update" it, will not change
the date unless you Save As.
