Enter password when resuming from standby

I would like Windows XP to prompt me for a password when I resume from
Standby. Under the Advanced tab of the Power Options in Control Panel,
there is a checkbox to enable this feature. However, I have this checked
and my computer doesn't prompt me for a password when it resumes from
Standby. I have the power options set to turn off my monitor after 20
minutes, turn off hard disk after 30 minutes and system standby after 45
minutes. I don't like to have a screen saver password set because I would
be entering a password too often. Has anyone else noticed that this feature
doesn't work on their system? Does anyone know how to get it to work?

Is your user account password protected? (or does your computer boot
straight into Windows?) That check box will plop you back at the winlogon
screen coming out of standby, but I imagine if your account doesn't have a
password it won't work.

I would like Windows XP to prompt me for a password when I resume from

Put a password on your account. Then use Control Panel> Power Options and
check the box to "prompt for password when computer resumes from standby."

Since you don't want to use a password with the screensaver, you can
uncheck the box for requiring a password on resume in Display>
Screensavers. Disabling the password requirement here will not disable the
password requirement for resuming from standby.
